Applying active teaching methods in integrating life skills education into reading lessons in vietnamese grade 5 (the “connecting knowledge with life” textbook series)
Abstract
Life skills education is one of the essential goals of modern education, contributing to the holistic formation and development of students’ personalities. At the primary level, the subject of Vietnamese—particularly the Reading component—plays a foundational role in developing linguistic competence while simultaneously creating favorable conditions for integrating life skills education. Reading activities provide an environment through which students can cultivate moral values, emotional development, and essential life competencies. However, some teachers still encounter difficulties in implementing such integration and tend to rely on traditional teaching methods that do not fully foster students’ abilities. This paper focuses on proposing several active teaching methods aimed at effectively supporting the integration of life skills education into Reading instruction for Grade 5 students, based on the textbook series “Connecting Knowledge with Life”.
