THE ROLE OF SOCIAL WORK IN HOSPITALS IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

Social work in hospitals is important field in social work. In some hospitals, the
role of social workers is recognised professionally and play an essential part in taking
care of patients and their families as well as other medical staffs. With the aim of
researching about the role of social work in hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, we decided to
use two types of research methods: quantitative method (total number of samples is 120)
and qualitative method (total sample number is 15) based on choosing samples in terms of
team/room in 3 routes of hospitals in district, city and central area. These findings showed
the contribution of social work in hospital from district to higher place. Social works have
been proved to be effective for supporting patients and their families, as well as other
medical staffs in many ways,… However, there have been some difficultites in terms of
organizing activities professionally and approaching some needy people. Besides, the role
of social works has been seen in some supportive activities for underprivileged group.
