ANALYZE THE SHORT STORY CHI PHEO ACCORDING TO THE THEORY OF SYNTHETIC DISCOURSE ANALYSIS (STUDY EXCERPT OF CHI PHEO'S LAST VISIT TO BA KIEN)

Abstract

   This article applies the theory of synthetic discourse analysis to synthesize the study of the excerpt "The last meeting of Chi Pheo and Ba Kien" in the short story Chi Pheo by Nam Cao. With the analysis of elements of the vocabulary (layout and syntax) of dialogue, monologue, and linguistic ways expressing modality in sentences/turns of speech, the research results of the article have clarified understand the impact of each microscopic detail in the excerpt, thereby explaining the psychology and language of the two characters Chi Pheo and Ba Kien, contributing to revealing the artistic value of Nam Cao's pen concisely and explicitly.
