Social conflict and the choice of life values in the plays of Luu Quang Vu from sociocultural perspective (a case study of the play “Hon Truong Ba, da hang thit)
Abstract
From a cultural sociological perspective, social conflict is understood as the tensions and contradictions that arise when individuals or social groups encounter differences in opinions, values, beliefs, and cultural practices. The shifts and choices in life values compel individuals and social groups to navigate between old and new ideals, personal desires and social responsibilities, and ethics versus self-interest. This paper applies Social Conflict Theory from sociology to examine these conflicts, offering a deeper understanding of how culture and society interact to shape human behavior and value-based decisions. Through the lens of cultural sociology, Luu Quang Vu’s renowned play Hon Truong Ba, da hang thit reflects both personal conflicts and broader societal tensions, revealing transformations in social structures, values, and beliefs within Vietnamese culture during the Doi moi (Renovation) period.
