Using video modeling to teach positive behaviors to children with autism spectrum disorder at the age of 5–6 years old in Hanoi city preschools
Abstract
This article examines the use of Video Modeling (VM) to promote positive behaviors in three preschool children aged 5–6 years with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at a kindergarten in Hanoi. A single‐subject A–B–A’ design was employed, targeting three behaviors: greeting–responding, sharing–cooperating, and waiting for one's turn. Data were collected through ABC observation charts, session-based frequency recording, and the Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS). Results indicated a steady increase in positive behaviors during the intervention phase and maintenance of these gains in the A’ phase, accompanied by a clear reduction in inappropriate behaviors. GAS outcomes confirmed that all three children met or exceeded expected behavioral goals. The findings demonstrate that VM is a feasible and effective approach for enhancing social skills and adaptive behaviors in preschool children with ASD.
