Abstract

This study focuses on designing periodic tests for Grade 4 Science oriented towards developing Natural Science competency for students, meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program. Based on the analysis of the Natural Science competency structure and modern assessment principles, the article proposes a test design process comprising 4 rigorous steps: defining objectives, constructing the matrix and specification table, compiling questions according to cognitive levels, and developing grading guides (rubrics). The research result is an illustrative test set for the end of Semester I (closely aligned with the "Connecting Knowledge to Life" textbook series) that is scientifically designed, helping to assess students' competency accurately and objectively, while simultaneously providing a tool to support teachers in innovating assessment methods in primary schools.
