Historical and legal values of Geneva Agreement for Vietnamese revolution
Abstract
Geneva Agreement signed on July 21st, 1954 was a great victory and of extremely important significance to the history of Vietnamese nation. The Geneva Agreement is an international legal document for a synchronous military and political solution for the purpose of ending the war and restoring the peace in Vietnam. This is the first time the French Government and countries participating in the conference had to commit to respecting the basic national rights such as independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. The French army had to withdraw and the North Vietnam was completely liberated.
Signing the Geneva Agreement is inevitable, showing desires for peace and goodwill to end the war with negotiation solution. It was a timely decision ending the resistance war against the French colonists.
