A contrastive research on riddles in English and Vietnamese languages

Abstract

     This study comparing riddles in English and Vietnamese was conducted to learn more deeply about the characteristics as well as similarities and differences in the riddles of the two languages: English and Vietnamese. The main research object is riddles in English and Vietnamese language. The research corpus ranges from folk to modern riddles, from trick riddles to scientific riddles. Using methods of collecting data and information, statistics and induction, analysis combined with synthesis, the research has found similar and different characteristics in the riddles of the two mentioned languages. The research results can be used as a reference for students to use in the Comparative Linguistics module, helping learners better understand the riddles in English and Vietnamese.
