The art of building the polyhedron heroic characters in the novel “On This Land” by Hoang Van Bon

Abstract

The Novel “On This Land” by Hoang van Bon was first published in 1962 and has triggered off a variety of diverse public opinions since then. The writer built up many characters having personalities of different respects to reflect the sophistication of the Vietnam historic current in the early anti-French resistance periods. The article will analyze some artistic techniques used by the author in order to build up the symbolic character of Ba Rau – one of the polyhedron heroic characters typical in Vietnam revolutionary prose. From that, the existence and attraction of this type of characters is confirmed in Vietnam revolutionary novels in the war time.
