Solutions for the Foreign Language Project 2020 for English and non-English major students at Phu Yen University

Abstract

The Decision 1400/QD-TTg by the Minister of the Government dated 30/09/2008 ratifying the Project for “Teaching and learning foreign languages in the national education system in the period 2008-2020” (hereafter called “The Foreign Language Project 2020”, whose aim is that, until 2020, foreign languages shall be the strong point of Vietnamese students in their learning, communication and research … [5]. At Phu Yen University (hereafter called PYU), the level of using foreign languages of non-English major students in general and of English major ones in particular after graduation is very limited, and they hardly reach the required foreign language level. Through this article, we analyze the advantages and disadvantages, and then give a number of solutions so that PYU can make positive changes in all fields to meet the Foreign Language Project 2020.
