Cultural features of Enlish and Vietnamese idioms denoting speed
Abstract
Cultural features of Enlish and Vietnamese idioms denoting speed Language and culture are closely connected and inseparable. Idioms are considered a special form of language that carries a large amount of cultural information and native speakers popularly use them in their daily communication. Nevertheless, it is not easy for non-native speakers to understand such idioms since most of them have figurative meanings. This study is conducted to investigate some cultural and semantic features of English and Vietnamese idioms denoting speed. The idioms in both languages have not only some generality but also the demonstration of their own national cultural characteristics. It is hoped the findings can help the English and Vietnamese learners improve their efficiency of using the idioms denoting speed in language communication.
