Abstract

The history of relations between the two countries of the United States and Vietnam was promoted quite early in the past. In the nineteenth century, the navigator Edmund Roberts was appointed by the US government as a special envoy to Vietnam twice to establish diplomatic relations. The paper analyzes the efforts of special envoy Edmund Roberts in his mission of opening Vietnam-US intercourse in the nineteenth century.
