Realities and solutions for solid waste management in Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province

Abstract

Tuy Hoa city (Phu Yen), the volume of domestic solid waste in Ward 4 is about 18 tons per day, in An Phu commune is 5 tons per day. The components of organic and inorganic solid waste in Ward 4 are about 37-49%,51-63% respectively; In An Phu commune, the organic solid waste is 58-68%, the inorganic solid waste is 32-42%. The amount of solid waste generated is relatively high, but the collection has not been carried out thoroughly; out-of-date and damaged collection equipment; unspecialized garbage trucks; lack of labor protective equipment for garbage collectors; incomplete collecting sanitation fees in households; falure to perform waste separation at the sources; professional capacity of the environmental managerial staff as well as the awareness of the community on environmental protection.
