Virtual narrator in Mo Yan novels
Abstract
Virtual narrator is a unique point in the narrative art of Mo Yan’s novels. The majority of this type of narrator uses first person singular and exists in several forms, such as the part of the ego of the character (Mangroves), soul or awareness of the character (The Republic of Wine) , animals (Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out), infants (Big Breasts And Wide Hips), and the like. The most special feature of the virtual narrator is: it plays the roles of both the narrator in the third person, and as well as the narrator in the first person. Besides expressing ideological content of the work, it also creates some new, original, modern features in terms of the expression in his novels.
