Geographical position of the central provinces – from the perspectives of marine economy

Abstract

Efficient and sustainable marine economic development is a major policy of Vietnam’s Party and State in Vietnam marine strategy up to the year 2020. Besides, the policy also contributes to promote Vietnam to become a marine potential nation and guarantee firmly the sovereignty and the sovereignty rights of nation on the sea. The Central Region of Vietnam (Northern Central and Southern Central Coast) includes 14 coastal provinces and cities (from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan) has importantly strategic, economic and cultural position. Moreover, this area also has many potentials and advantages for efficient and sustainable marine economic development. From the geographical position features and natural conditions of the provinces and cities of the Central Region, the article clarifies some advantages and disadvantages as well as the opportunities and challenges in the sustainable marine economic development in the period industrialization, modernization and global integration.
