STEM- BASED EDUCATION: “USING ALCOHOL IN DRIED FLOWER PRODUCTION” TO DEVELOP STUDENT’S CREATIVITY

Abstract

            STEM-based education has been widely applied in high schools in Vietnam recenlty. Through solving problem activities in STEM-based education by applying knowledge and skills in many different areas, students have the opportunities to develop core competencies and professional competencies, consistent with the purposes of reforming general education proposed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) in Vietnam. The paper presents the structure of creativity competence, as well as the process of designing and conducting a STEM topic to develop this competence to students. The paper also reports the results of an experiment to teach a STEM topic “Using alcohol in dried flower production” for 200 students in Grade 11. The results show that student’s creativity was developed. By answering orientation questions, the students could discover and solve practical problems, choose suitable solutions, and suggest ideas to improve the process and the products.
