THE CHOICE OF PEDAGOGY MAJOR BY FRESHMAN AT HO CHI MINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION

Abstract

 

The paper aims to explore the choice of pedagogy major by freshmen at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education using a questionnaire. A total of 335 freshmen from 18 majors joined the study. The results indicate that some students chose to be a teacher  from childhood or secondary schools. Almost participants chose the major from high school and considered it during the admission application to university. Most students who had firm orientation during the admission process had high academic results and high entrance exam results. Most participants are satisfied with their current choices. Students who are unsure about their career orientation (especially during high school and the admission process) are less satisfied about the choices than those who have a clear careerorientation of being a teacher.
