MOUNTAIN AS A SYMBOL IN THE CULTURAL MINDSET OF PEOPLE IN AN GIANG
Abstract
Mountain not only differentiates An Giang’s topography, ecological system, and natural landscape from those of other provinces in the Southwestern region of Vietnam, but also is an important factor that should be studied to gain insight into social and economic changes of Angiang. From the geographical- cultural perspective, mountain plays a crucial role in forming Angiang’s cultural identity. The images of mountain can still be traced back in the myths, in temples and shrines, and in rituals of Angiang as well. This paper strives to explain the origin of mountain as a symbol and the name That Son and to interpret its cultural meanings.
