THE COGNITIVE MODELS OF CONCEPTUAL METAPHORS REPRESENTED BY THE IDIOMATIC STRUCTURES “X + BODY ORGANS” IN ENGLISH

Abstract

The aim of this paper is, based on the theoretical framework of cognitive linguistics, to study the cognitive models of conceptual metaphors represented by the idiomatic structures “X + body organs in English, the mappings between the sources and targets within these metaphors, their experientialism basis as well as the ways in which the English body organs are conceptualized. On the basics of these, the typical features of culture and mind of the English-Americans in general and the English people in particular will then be discussed and at the same time, an exclusive model of the English-American mind and culture will also be proposed.
