LOCATIVE PREPOSITIONS “AT, IN, ON” IN ENGLISH AND THE CONTRASTIVE TRANSLATION INTO VIETNAMESE THROUGH THE LOCATIVE FRAMEWORK
Abstract
Based on the role of the framework under the influence of the culture of perspective in both English and Vietnamese as the cognitive premise in contrastive translation, the article presents the explanation of the process of contrastive translation in terms of similarities as well as differences in the semantic meaning of locative prepositions “at, in, on” in English with Vietnamese locative equivalents through specific communicative contexts. The research results show that if the landmark in the framework of locative English prepositions assimilates the view of perspective, it is similar to Vietnamese words. Contrary to the Vietnamese view of perspective, the grammatical meaning is not equivalent for English prepositions.
