Abstract

The Ngan Sau River basin is a substantial subbasin of the Ca River system. The catchment area up to Linh Cam hydrological station is 2,060km2 and up to Hoa Duyet is 1,880km2. The basin is frequently affected by floods, which cause significant damage to people and property. Notable floods include those in 1978, 1988, 1996, 2002, 2007, 2010, 2016, 2019, and most recently in 2020 and 2022. The intricate nature of flood developments poses a significant challenge to managers seeking to mitigate flood risks. The present study was conducted with the objective of providing a scientific basis for the development of a plan to regulate and reduce floods in the reservoir system or effective flood prevention plans. To this end, the study presents the results of an investigation into the characteristics of rainfall runoff in the Ngan Sau river basin in Ha Tinh province.
