The national soil mechanics olympiad and its role in the field of geotechnical engineering

Abstract

The Soil Mechanics is one of eight subject mechanics which is organised in the National OLYMPIC competition mechanics every year for students of the technological Universities. The first exam of soil mechanics began in 1997, it has been held 25 examinations from 1997 to the present, receiving enthusiastic and support from universities and a large number of students. The national soil mechanics competion is beneficial for both learner and supervisors, raising professional standards and ensuring teaching consistency nationwide. This article provides a brief history of Soil Mechanics subject and its role in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, as well as summarizing some sheared experiences in teaching, organizing, and evaluating in the National Soil Mechanics Olimpiad.
