Local Community’s Adaptation to a Water Management Model for a Project in Duc Hoa Irrigation Zone, Long An Province

Abstract

In Duc Hoa irrigation area, Long An province - a newly formed irrigation area within the Phuoc Hoa irrigation project framework, local population is accustomed to using water from individual wells or rainwater for irrigation purposes. Thus, the collective management of water through an irrigation canal system represents a novel model for the residents. The feedback and responses of people and local authorities to the project’s impacts, socio-economic changes, and climate fluctuations in the irrigation area is an issue that needs to be considered to proceed to build an effective and sustainable water resource management model.
