Current Relationship Between Ethnic People and the Nation-State in the Vietnam-China Border Area

Abstract

Lately, numerous ethnological studies have been conducted concerning ethnic relations. However, there are still several limitations in terms of both quantity and content when it comes to researching the relationships of ethnic groups in border areas with the nation-state of Vietnam, especially within the present context of international integration. Drawing upon field data from 2022 to 2023 and referring to other published research, this article elucidates the current relationship between ethnic communities in the Vietnam-China border region and the nation of Vietnam. This relationship is manifested through their awareness and practices in bolstering the political system, executing policies for socioeconomic development, ensuring border security and national defense, managing local society, adhering to state laws, promoting ethnic and national cultural values, and addressing matters pertaining to national education, healthcare, and communication.
