Dó Paper Making Process and Techniques of Viet People in Dong Cao Village, Bac Ninh City

Abstract

Based on field research in 2022 and 2023 in Dong Cao village, Bac Ninh province, this article clarifies the process of exploiting and processing raw materials and techniques for making the traditional Dó paper of the Viet people. The profession of making Dó paper in Dong Cao village has existed for a long time. Currently, village households make handmade Dó paper and produce industrial paper simultaneously, so the economy of the craft village is quite developed. Folk experiences in paper making are always preserved by villagers and passed down from generation to generation. However, the craft of making handmade Dó paper is facing new challenges. It is at risk of being lost, as various reasons are affecting the development of the craft village today.
