Livelihood Activities of Lu People in Ban Hon Commune, Tam Duong District, Lai Chau Province Today

Abstract

In the market economy context, the socioeconomic life of Lu people in Ban Hon commune, Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province, is changing rapidly, including livelihood activities. Based on field research, this article shows that in addition to traditional livelihoods, several new livelihoods have gradually appeared, such as providing homestay services and working as wage labourers and workers at companies, initially contributing to improving the lives of people there. In that context, besides the advantages of vibrancy and adaptation, the study also points out many challenges in this community’s current livelihood activities, such as climate change, the decline of production resources, and human resource limitations.
