The Dao’s Trade of Forest Products in the Border Area of Lao Cai Province’s Muong Khuong District

Abstract

The two communes of Lung Vai and Nam Chay in Muong Khuong district of Lao Cai province are home to a large number of Dao people and are also localities with a high potential for forest products. In recent years, the Dao have paid great attention to expanding the sale of forest products in the domestic market and exports across the border. Recently, changes in the State’s forestry policy and the tightening of China’s border management during the pandemic have inevitably impacted the local trade of forest products. The article analyses the current status of the Dao’s trade of forest products in the two research areas and suggests solutions to some issues in the process of growing and consuming local forest products.
