New Religious Phenomena in Some Ethnic Minorities in the Northwest Region

Abstract

The Northwest is a region with diverse ethnic groups, cultures, beliefs, and religions. New religious phenomena appearing here in recent years have had certain influences on the economic life, culture, and society of ethnic groups and the political security of the region. The article summarises these new religious phenomena that have been introduced and are active in the Northwest today. These include The Spirituality of President Ho Chi Minh (Tâm linh Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh), San Su Khe To, Human Energy (Nhân Điện), Thái Việt, Supreme Master Thanh Hai (Thanh Hải vô thượng sư), Falun Gong (Pháp luân công), Vacuum (Chân Không/Đạo Ty), Light and Sound Meditation (Pháp môn diệu âm), Xè A, Nine Heavens (Cửu trùng thiên), The 18th Group of Phu Tho (Đoàn 18 Phú Thọ), Dương Văn Mình, Giê Xùa, Do Aunt (Bà cô Dợ), and others. At the same time, it analyses the causes of new religious phenomena and proposes some solutions for the State management of religion.
