Exploiting Natural Forest Products of the Dao in the Border Area of Lung Vai Commune, Muong Khuong District, Lao Cai Province

Abstract

Exploiting natural forest products is considered a primitive type of livelihood typical of residents in mountainous areas, which contains accumulated knowledge in human interaction with nature. Since our country entered the period of industrialisation and modernisation, the Party and State have introduced policies and projects to develop rural and mountainous economies, creating changes in many fields. Among these are outstanding developments in economic sectors that directly affect people’s livelihoods, including exploiting natural forest products. This article explores Dao people’s current exploitation activities of forest products in the border area of Lung Vai commune, Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province. Thereby, it analyses the impact of some ethnic factors on this exploitation to point out the opportunities and challenges posed to the people.
