Forest Products Production and Environmental Protection in Muong Khuong District, Lao Cai Province
Abstract
Forest production is one of the essential livelihood activities of people in the border area of Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province. At present, the shift in the structure of forest production from afforestation for pure timber (such as pine, linden, manglietia conifera dandy, and bead tree) to non-timber forest products (such as anise, chine wood oil tree, cinnamon, tea, and amomum) has brought about a significant source of income for the people but has also created multi-dimensional impacts on the environment and society. The article is based on the identification and analysis of the current situation of forest production, also including issues of environmental protection in Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province. On this basis, it offers some solutions for balancing economic development and environmental protection.
