Practicing Islam and Its Impacts on Cham Culture and Society in An Giang Province

Abstract

Islam is one of the major religions in the world. Since its introduction into Vietnam, this religion has been adopted mainly in the Cham community and has changed and interfered with other beliefs and religions, forming the community of Cham Islam, Cham Bani, and Cham Brahmans. The Cham people in An Giang follow Islam and have relations with Muslim communities in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. The religious activities of the Cham people in An Giang show that the canon law of Islam has had an impact on many areas of the economic, cultural, and social life of this community. The article mentions the history of the introduction of Islam, the formation of the Cham Muslim community in An Giang, and the impacts of Islamic law on some aspects of the Cham people’s cultural and social life.
