School attendance of Co-ho and Hmong children in Dam Rong district, Lam Dong province today
Abstract
Children of ethnic minorities have inadequate opportunities to study at higher education levels due to their limited circumstances of family's economic conditions. Therefore, the expenses for the children's education have become a burden for many ethnic minorities. In some places, although teachers and local officials have been trying to encourage children to go to school at the primary level by visiting their homes and convince them to do so, the dropout rate has not decreased, especially amongst ethnic minority students. Hence, what are the causes of this situation? Based on the qualitative data and 200 samples of quantitative data collected during the 2020 survey, this article analyzes people's perceptions of the school attendance situation of the Co-ho and Hmong children in two communes Lieng Sronh and Ro Men from Dam Rong district, Lam Dong province. Thereby, it proposes several recommendations to reduce the current school dropout of students in mountainous regions.
