Some religious activities of Khmer people in the Vietnam - Cambodia border area and the posed problems (Case study in Tinh Bien district, An Giang province)

Abstract

The Khmer in Vietnam have had a long-standing relationship with their ethnic counterpart in Cambodia in terms of shared ethnicity, religion and culture, which leads regular cross-border economic, cultural and social activities. The policy on Freedom of belief and religion has provided the condition for the recent thriving of cross-border religious activities between Vietnam and Cambodia in the form of worshiping and doing meritorious deeds, studying religion abroad, receiving funding, etc. These activities take place through the temple system of the two countries in the border area. This article mentions a number of cross-border religious activities of the Vietnam Khmer in Tinh Bien district, An Giang province, using the cases of the Sen Dolta and Kathina festivals and the study of religion abroad.
