Abstract
In the course of human history, epidemics frequently occurred impacting many aspects of human life. Dangerous epidemics with high mortality rates have led to population decline and demographic change. A number of epidemics have affected the fate of ethnic groups, dynasties and civilizations throughout history. This article aims to explore the effects of epidemics on the demographics and fate of nations and ethnic peoples in the past. Within the scope of the research, the article analyzes some specific cases including the Justinian pandemic and the "Black Death" in Europe, epidemics in the Aztec and Inca communities in the New World, epidemics in China during the Ming-Qing period and in Vietnam under the Nguyen Dynasty.
