Non-timber forest product exploitation of Giay people in Ban Qua commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province.

Abstract

Non-timber forest products include non-timber biological products, which are harvested mainly from forests for commerce, industry and people's livelihoods. These products can be collected from the wild or they can also be cultivated and exploited by the people. On the basis of field data and analysis of secondary documents, this study aims to clarify the picture of the exploitation of non-timber forest products available in natural and artificial forests of the Giay ethnicity in Ban Qua commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. In addition, this article analyses the role of non-timber forest products in the life of the studied ethnic group and raises some issues about the process of non-timber forest product exploitation.
