Discussion about the role of the Viet people in the development of the Vietnam - China border region in the North - East area

Abstract

The North-East region of the Vietnam - China border has played an important role in Vietnam’s history. This is the settlement area of many ethnicities, including the Viet people. For many reasons, this frontier region is facing many challenges in development. It is impacted by China’s border policies and our country’s ‘soft’ border has not been compatible with the ‘hard’ border – the national border. The current circumstances requires Vietnam to think of improving the roles of ethnic groups, including the Viet people – who play the main role in Vietnam’s multi-ethnic national development. Vietnam must enhance the internal strength of the local Viet residents with the supports of all the Viet people within Vietnam in the short and long term in all fields of development, especially in economic development.
