Multi dimensional poverty has been researched in Vietnam for over 15 years. Its criteria have been updated in sustainable poverty reduction policies of our Party and State. Vietnam set the goal that by 2020, extreme poverty will be eliminated completely. However, regional and ethnic diversity in Vietnam has impacted this policy implementation as hunger and poverty mostly exist in the rural, mountainous and ethnic regions. This article contributes to identifying the multi-dimensional poverty in a commune of the J’rai community in Tay Nguyen. It asserts that multi-dimensional poverty criteria are not easily measurable by statistics and are therefore difficult to apply in policy.
