Further discussion on the perception of commercial activities of the Viet people.

Abstract

Commerce, which is one of three traditional major economic fields of the Viet villagers in the North, has been discussed in many research projects. However, researchers have mainly focused on commercial activities at village markets. The perception of commerce by the Viet (Kinh) people has been discussed but not enough to clarify the issue, nor explain the rationales of undervaluation of commercial activities in the dynastic monarchy period and the changes of this perception since the beginning of 20th century. This article encourages further discussions about this issue.
