Some flaws in the socio-economic development of indigenous ethnic minority communities in the mountainous area of Quang Nam province.

Abstract

The mountainous area of Quang Nam province are the area of habitation for many indigenous ethnic groups, amongst which there are four large groups, namely: Co-tu, Xo-dang, Gie Trieng, Co. Indigenous ethnic groups in Quang Nam province are now encountering struggles and challenges in adjusting their lives to new circumstances. In this article, the author analyzes some flaws in the socio-economic development of indigenous ethnic minority groups in Quang Nam province, including low quality infrastructure, slow implementation of changes in socio-economic structure; difficulty in livelihood, high poverty rate, limited human resource quality, negative impacts of hydroelectric resettlement; forest, land use and management, fading traditional cultures, and new culture that has not been integrated into people's lives. On this basis, the author recommends some solutions as contributions to making policies for ethnic minority groups in Quang Nam province specifically and in the western central coast in general.
