The resettlement policy of Son La and Trung Son hydroelectric plants.
Abstract
Constructing hydroelectric plants is the national plan in order to meet the increasing demand for electricity due to economic development. However, thousands of people have to be relocated and resettled so that such projects could be done. Migration and resettlement are complex processes that might cause huge social impacts and national security effects, especially in remote and ethnic regions. Therefore, implementing the resettlement policy properly for the sake of people’s better and stable lives in resettled areas is the first priority of the Vietnamese government and the Party. This article mentions about similarities and differences of resettlement policy implementation of Son La hydroelectric plant (funded by the government) and that of the Trung Son hydroelectric plant (funded by the World Bank).
