Gender differences in the behavior of seeking supports in health care in rural areas of Vietnam.
Abstract
This research uses the data from the health care survey in 12 rural communes of three regions of Vietnam in 2013 - 2014. By using logistic regression and qualitative analysis, this article examines factors that lead to gender differences in the behavior of seeking supports in health care in the rural areas of Vietnam. From the perspective of cultural relativism and the political-economic theory, males and females at different ages, especially in working age groups, embrace distinguished gender roles, and positions. Family economic condition is a significant factor that determines timely health care practices. However, in the case of the same economic condition, health care priorities will be for females. Gender construction – femininity or masculinity - is influenced by cultures.
