Natural Disasters and Natural Disaster Prevention of Bru-Van Kieu people in the Border Area of Quang Binh Province
Abstract
The article focuses on analyzing the impacts of floods, droughts, storms, and
tropical depressions on the lives of the Bru-Van Kieu people in Kim Thuy border commune, Le
Thuy district, Quang Binh province, and the natural disaster prevention measures they have
taken. Research results show that under the guidance of local authorities, the Bru-Van Kieu
people have chosen some solutions to prevent natural disasters, such as planting drought
resistant trees, changing the crop calendar to avoid floods, and creating green fences to reduce
the impact of storms and tropical depressions. However, the high poverty rate, lack of
productive land, underdeveloped infrastructure, and ethnic psychology are factors that make
the process of natural disaster prevention for the Bru-Van Kieu people here unsustainable.
