Abstract
Research on the beliefs of an ethnic group is critical for providing a deep
understanding of the faith, perspectives, behaviour, lifestyle, and way of living of its members
and the community. The Brau people’s belief system is animist, but it is also imbued with the
identity of ethnic groups in the highlands, expressed through rituals, festivals, production
activities, and daily life. However, studies on the beliefs of the Brau people have not yet resulted
in any in-depth publications; they are only small pieces of research on this ethnic group. This
article contributes to clarifying the belief system of the Brau people, highlighting the three-layer
cosmology, the god/ghost system, and some essential rituals in the life of this community.
