The Co-ethnic Relationship of Chinese-Vietnamese in the Southwestern Region with Those inside and outside Vietnam

Abstract

This writing aims to identify the co-ethnic relationship of Chinese-Vietnamese in the Southwestern region with those in Southeastern region (mainly in Ho Chi Minh City) and other countries (China, the United States, Canada, Australia, etc.). In general, there are two main elements which obstruct the maintenance of co-ethnic relationship, especially the trans-national border kin relationship of Chinese-Vietnamese with their native place in China. Those are the financial potentiality and widening of generation gap when the old people pass away. Meanwhile, the relationship of Chinese-Vietnamese people in the Southwestern region with co-ethnic people in the United States, Australia and so on grows increasingly which has been expressed concretely in their trans-national marriage relationship and support of oversea co-ethnic people for their relatives and poor people in community of Chinese-Vietnamese people in their native place.
