“Being Considered as the Descendents of Ban Vuong” - the Transition of Position of Yao Growing-up Men in the Initiation Rite (Case Study of the Initiation Rite of Yao Lo Gang People in Yen Do Commune, Phu Luong District, Thai Nguyen Province)
Abstract
The initiation rite is a rite of important transition for each grow-up Yao man in general which is organized carefully by Yao Lo Gang people. This rite expresses the Yao Lo Gang people’ beliefs and cultural identity. An arisen question is that in the initiation rite, how were operations of transition conducted? How did the signs of transition state, their role, position and effectiveness in process of transition of position of grow-up man in that rite take place? Applying the theory of transition rite developed by Amold van Gennep, the author tries to make an effort to decode the actions and aims of Yao Lo Gang people when they implemented the initiation rite from which he confirms more the role of initiation rite towards the initiator.
