The Experiences of Aquacultural Practices in Response to Climate Change of Kinh and Khmer People in Ca Mau Province

  • Nguyễn Thẩm Thu Hà

Abstract

This article initially assesses impacts of climate change on aquafarming and experiences of response of the Kinh and Khmer people in order to minimize risks and damages. Unusual changes in temperature, precipitation and salinity intrusion are the most salient expressions of influences of climate change on aquaculture. This influence reduces productivity and quality of aquacultural products, damages aquafarming infrastructure, increases rearing costs and negative environmental impacts. Both the Kinh and Khmer people have the means to cope with this situation such as structural transformation and change of varieties, conversion of land use aim, change of aquafarming technologies, reinforcement of aquafarming areas, construction of networks of aquafarming and so on. However, the ways of the Kinh people’s response are more sensible and flexible than those of the Khmer people
