Combination of Customary Law and State Law in Marriage Practice of E-de People in Cuor Dang Commune, Cu M’gar District, Dak Lak Province.

Abstract

The E-de ethnic group belonging to Malayo-Polynesian linguistics family is one of the long-standing communities in the Central Highlands. Traditionally, the social institution of the E-de people operated in an autonomous way based on the customary law. Accordingly, every member in the E-de community had to strictly obey and implement all regulations of their customary law. At present, the customary law and State law co-exist as social norms. In practice, how have the E-de people received two these valuable systems in the process of regulating social relationships in general and marriage practice in particular? The writing initially investigates the combination of customary law and State law in marriage practice of the E-de people in Cuor Dang commune, Cu M’gar district, Dak Lak province.
