Process of Receiving the Lowlanders to Participate in Reclamation of the Mountainous Region in Son La Province (1961-1965)

Abstract

The mobilization of the lowlanders to participate in economic development in the mountainous region was one of the three big campaigns (together with the campaigns of improvement of management of cooperatives and “three constructions, three preventions”) of the Northern Vietnam in the 1960s. The main content of this movement was to organize and bring the lowland people to the mountains to take part in the reclamation and economic development in the later. Son La province was one of the pioneer mountainous localities in deploying and implementing this movement. During 5 years (1961-1965), Son La province actively and initiatively received myriads of people from the delta region, in making arrangement of accommodation and helping the later in reclamation and development of production. This writing investigated into the process of receiving the lowlanders who joined reclamation of the mountainous region in Son La province in the 1961-1965 period.
