From the Miao People in China to the Hmong people in Vietnam: Some Aspects of Ethnic Origin and Migration History
Abstract
The writing bases on the comparison of relative historical events of China and the works of ethnic origin and migration history of the Hmong people published by a number of scholars who have studied the Miao people in China and the Hmong people in Vietnam. The comparative result shows that the Hmong people migrated to Vietnam from the districts belonging to Guangxi and Yunnan provinces of China bordering Vietnam. Accordingly, the first Hmong migrants reached Vietnam in about the Nguyen dynasty of China. After the 17th century, due to wars, their economic aims and custom and habits, the Hmong people continued migrating to Vietnam in three times of big migration and many times of disperse ones. Yet, to define clearly the time and cause of each migration time, it is necessary to have the research cooperation of the scientists in Vietnam, China and Southeast Asian countries.
