The Change of Livelihood of Farmers in Gia Loc District, Hai Duong Province in the Industrialization and Modernization Background

Abstract

The article shows that the industrialization and urbanization process has made change all aspects of economic, cultural, and social life, especially the livelihood of farmers in Gia Loc district. The change of livelihood activities has taken place in all sectors from agriculture to industry and services. Beside from this, the industrialization and urbanization process also has generated the new livelihood activities: becoming workers, doing small businesses and services, running guest houses and entertainment services (karaoke, cafe, internet, billiards, and so on). However, there is a difference of degree in change of livelihood activities in the communes of Gia Loc district. Specifically, the communes with more industrial zones have had faster and stronger socio-economic change than those ones with weak influence of the industrial zones.
